Description

Young researcher – doctoral student in the field of medical neuroelectronics who will carry out PhD research on design and application of new nano-structural materials in neuroelectronic interfaces for biomedical applications. The project is carried out within the Research Excellence Centre STIM REI at the University of Split.

Qualifications and experience

  • graduate diploma degree in natural sciences, electrical engineering or related fields (computing, medical electronics, medical physics, biophysics, neuroscience, etc);
  • enrolled doctoral study or fulfilled conditions for the enrollment of the relevant doctoral program in Croatia;
  • high computer literacy;
  • excellent fuuency in English.

Job description

The selected candidate will:

  • need to fulfill all obligations of the enrolled doctoral program;
  • perform basic research and will report to the principal investigator Assistant Professor Damir Kovačić;
  • keep laboratory diary in collaboration with the principal investigator;
  • analyze data and write manuscripts for scientific and technical publications in collaboration with the principal investigator;
  • participate in other activities of the project.

PhD students will be principally involved in the following activities:

1) Design, manufacture and verification of modified neuroelectric interface with biocompatible electrodes (including graphene electrodes);

2) Functional integration of the modified interface with the existing microelectronic system for neurostimulation and monitoring;

3) Neurophysiological characterization of in vitro neuronal networks

Preference is given to applicants with previous experience in the laboratory and / or the organization of work in a laboratory, with the knowledge and experience in the field of neuroscience with numerical skills (for example: programming, modeling, digital signal processing, Matlab, etc) and to those who already performed experiments in neurophysiology.
